Basic Biology
Although introduced from Asia 40 years ago, hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) has
recently become a pest of hemlock stands in this region. Detailed life history
studies are being conducted throughout Virginia that will lead to the
instructions of life table. Modeling of life stage development time and host
tree susceptibility studies are also being carried out.
